Top Prospect Games Knoxville: Quick Hits (2024)

KNOXVILLE, TN- TheTop Prospect Games: Knoxvillewas held on Tuesday, June 13th and Wednesday June 14th at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2024-2027 classes from Volunteer state. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated innings during the game play and were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Tuesday and Wednesday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

Brock Beddingfield: Catcher that is coming into his own as he owned the highest velocity from the position out of the entire catching group with a 77-mph throwdown. Worked clean under the baseball with a great setup and feel for working through the ball to gain ground to second base. Led the group with a 1.84 pop time with an absolute hose. At the plate, has present pop to pull side with a swing that naturally works the left-center gap. Had one of the furthest batted balls at 356 ft, with a bat that offers a ton to work with and develop and could be a hitter that projects consistent home run ability down the line.

Cade Allen: Allen had one of the better outings during the game portion of the Top Prospect Games. He has a long, loose arm out of a high over the top slot. Levers really well down the mound to stack his shoulders with a whippy arm action and fiery hips. Sat 87-88 mph the entire way with a fastball that not only has quality spin at a 2250 average, but with legit natural cut: even mixing one with 3 inches of horizontal glove-side movement at 17 inches of vertical plane. That is something you never see at this level, as Allen has really advanced actions and feel for pitching. Great command of his pitches and ability to use them, as he was able to locate all 3 of his offerings for strikes. Slider showed some depth with sweep, which will generate swing & miss at 79-80 mph. This is a kid that is only about to go into his junior season of high school baseball with an advanced cutting fastball that many professional pitchers have a hard time not only with the ability to throw, but even grasping.

Connor Hamilton: At 6 foot 4 and 200 pounds, Hamilton just screams frame and projectability. Hamilton sat in the 86-87 range over the course of two innings, while maxing out at 88 mph on the fastball. Was able to spin some fastballs in the 2300 range that had a lot of carry and seemed to jump on hitters. He can get reachy at times during his drive portion of his delivery, opening up quicker than his hips necessarily need to,which bodes well for him moving forward, as he has a lot more velo in the tank presently accessible to him. Gets great extension at his release point and could even garner additional reach upon release with a more fluid initial arm path. Really solid feel for a knuckle curve that has a really nice downward shape and could develop into an advanced offering as he adds velocity.

Ronaldo Matti: Just a really clean swing with quick hands, solid all-aroundplayer that will blow up as he gets in front of more and more people. Had one of the highest exit velocities at 98, while being the only hitter of the entire group to average over a 90 mph exit velocity on Trackman during his round of BP. Behind the dish, put up a 1.91 pop time with clean throwdowns and really showed present feel working through the baseball, while gaining ground to second with an effortlessly smooth transfer to go along with a quick release. If he can continue to gain arm strength, some 1.90’s will become normal for him.

Riley Martin: Rising Freshman that is advanced beyond his years in terms of arm strength, command and presence. Really quick arm action that stays tight to his body and works in sync with his hip turn/ leg drive. The thing that stands out about Martin, is not just that he was able to throw 90 mph from the outfield, but it's with how smooth his actions are. His body is just calm the whole way with incredible arm speed that fires aggressively late. On the mound, he attacked hitters right away with a fastball in the 86-88 mph range, while leading the entire group touching 89 mph with the fastball. Also, showcased a breaking ball at 80-83, that at times flashed late movement. Stud all around and has a chance to turn into a low-mid 90’s arm by the time he graduates high school.

Hiram Lewis: Pitcher with a frame college coaches dream of. 6 foot 5 at 190 pounds, Lewis carries his weight extremely well, with him working bottom up with a stacked lower half that offers plenty of power with the development for more. Extremely projectable with a fastball touching 88 mph, while mostly working in the 83-86 mph range. His next step is developing his slider velocity and command, as he lacked some feel for it at times coming in at 70-73 with a rifle spin shape. Once Lewis learns how to fire late with that pitch with fastball intent, watch out as he has the ability to command 80 mph plus with that, as he has the length to create an idea sweeping shape to the pitch.

Nathan Eisfelder: Strong frame listed at 6 foot 1 and 195 pounds. Plus, plus bat speed at 74 mph with pop to pull side. Eisfelder was the only player of the group to get the ball out of the yard, while leading the group with an exit velo of 101 mph off the bat. Just offers a natural stroke through the zone and meets the ball with a low degree launch angle. He is a guy that should gain more power as he develops and could offer serious 3/4-hole potential in any lineup.

Will Britt: Rising freshman catcher that doesn’t jump off the board with insane measurables but shows his natural athletic playing ability with a gamer edge to him. Consistently hit during the game portion of the event off some really good arms and showed an advanced feel and presence for the game and in his ability. As he gains strength and size, he will be on many coach's radars.
