Ranking in Rocket League is considered hard for several reasons, but, is it impossible to stay at the top without spending 12 hours/day playing? Here we will explain to you in detail how the ladder works in Rocket League ranks, and give you a hint of what to do if you want to climb.

How do Rocket League ranks work?

Rocket League Tracker – The actual ladder

The tracker works for all players as a position tracking system. Games usually have ladders where the most prominent players appear, so to speak.

In this case, the tracker makes it easier to position people in the right place. Besides that, it allows us to know how many points a person has won, how much is the maximum score, among some other details. The good thing about this is that we can access it on the official Rocket League website.

So, how does the Rocket League ranking system work?

To climb up you need points. The points within the Rocket league Ranks MMR serves to create the layout. This works similar to the MMR (Matchmaking Rank) in many games, such as League of Legends, for example. Therefore, the more points you earn, the better your position in the ladder.

To sum up, you will have a league assigned based on your MMR in Rocket League, and this will be determined by the number of games you have won, and depending on the MMR of your defeated opponents. In the end, these are the points that players earn after each game; the more points, the better the ranking.

Supersonic Legend

In late 2020, Psyonix announced that expansion of the Rocket League rank system to include tiers within the previously highest Grand Champion rank, and atop it the new summit, Supersonic Legend. The exact MMR to achieve this varies between game modes, but it is the ultimate goal of all competitive players, and currently is made up of approximately 0.03% of the player base. These elite few have the right and chance to be queuing into professionals on a regular basis, the likes of jstn or ApparentlyJack, or the likes of OKhalid in 1v1.

What about the experience?

Levels in the Rocket League are an alternative way of looking at players from the Rocket League ranking system. But truth be told, a person’s level has little to do with which ranking division they are in. A player can have a low level and be in a division like a diamond while someone of high level can be Prospect.

In total there are 8 different levels within the game, the first being Rookie and the last being Rocketeer.

Here is the complete list with all the Rocket League levels:

  • Levels 1 to 9 – Rookie
  • Levels 10 to 19 – Semi-Pro
  • Levels 20 to 29 – Pro
  • Levels 30 to 39 – Veteran
  • Levels 40 to 49 – Expert
  • Levels 50 to 59 – Master
  • Levels 60 to 73 – Legend
  • Levels 74 and above – Rocketeer

How to rank in Rocket League?

To rank up in Rocket League new ranking system all you need is discipline and some luck. But there are also some ways to quicken things up. Here is some advice:

  • Be patient, try to play in rush hours, there are more newbies during that time (rush hours vary depending on your location)
  • Be disciplined, play enough every day to ensure your expertise. You should especially practice your aerial and wall-riding skills.
  • Play with a strategy. Besides, you should play in the modality that suits you best, if you are better at offence than defence you should try teaming up in 3v3 mode, but if you are overall good you could try to go solo.
  • Selecting a map where you are more comfortable gives you some advantage.
  • Give yourself a chance even if the other team looks too menacing.
  • Whenever possible, improve your gear and internet connection.

When do Rocket League ranks reset?

All competitive seasons within this game last about 3-4 months, for example, the 13th season opened on December 4th, 2019 and ended on March 25th, 2020. You can stay updated in the Rocket League official site to get the exact dates for each upcoming season.

The bad part of Rocket League Ranks System

Not everything can be perfect. The Rocket League ranking system usually has several problems. A person losing a game can easily lose several ranks, and this is one of the main problems players encounter.

This means that players with high Rocket League rank MMR can be left in low divisions and thus take advantage of other players. The Rocket League rating system can be a passion killer for players and Rocket League fantasy fans who want to pick rising stars.

Boosting service, is it worth it?

We all know that a boosting service will take us to the division we want to be in, but at what cost?

Unlike other games, RL is all about practice, so, going up several divisions and having no practice at all, means having a near-death sentence.

As tragic as it sounds, boost services can be a double-edged sword, as we could then lose all the progress we paid for by not having the skills to stay in the paid-for division. Our recommendation is to play in non-qualifying games and improve until you can reach your goals on your own.
