Fancy KPT Ornaments
You'll need PSP 7 from www.jasc.com,
and KPT5 from www.corel.com.
I will use PSP
keyboard shortcuts also. Remember to save often (Ctrl S).
D/L my KPT5 presets and cool kitchen preset here.
Unzip the presets to your Plugins/KPT5/Shapeshifter/presets/environments/shapeshifter
folder. If you don't have the cool kitchen environment map already, place it in
your KPT5\presets\EnvMaps folder.
I am also including a zip with my ornament
shape, already made for you, if you'd rather not try your hand at creating
it. Get it HERE. Place it in your Jasc/PSP7/shape folder.
Use my ornament shape instead of the arrow in step 2 - (uncheck
retain style, set the line width at 10).
You can d/l my topper tubes from my tube
page.
This is lots of fun!

-
Open a new transparent image, 400 X
400. Set your foreground and background colours to white.
-
Choose your preset shape tool, (shortcut=/),
using the arrow shape below,
draw an arrow at the top of your
canvas.
-
Using your selection tool (shortcut=S), draw
a rectangle selection around the bottom of the arrow. Hit delete.
-
Right click on the arrow layer, duplicate.
Image/mirror. Move this into place to join the top of the ornament.
Be sure the edges match up - Zoom in
(Shortcut=G).
Select all
(ctrl A), and float (ctrl F). Selection/Modify/Expand by 1. This
helps to eliminate jaggies :) Now that we've got it floating we can
use KPT.
-
Effects/KPT5/Shapeshifter. Click on the
circle button in the lower left corner. Browse to my preset you'd like
to use. I used the blue perlin one for the above ornament.
You
can change the colour of your ornament just by changing the colour setting in the
Environment window and mix environment slider. Be sure that cool
kitchen is the environment map, if it isn't showing up as the shiny silver
ball, click on it, and browse to your presets folder. Try new
settings .... you can change the texture in the bump map window.......push those buttons!
-
You can use this great stlye, and move on to
step 9, or duplicate it (ShiftD), and make this ornament a little more intricate. Here's what I
did: Keep your ornament selected. This way we can remove the
excess of your shapes from drawing outside the selection of the ornament.
-
Using your preset shape tool, (shortcut=\),
choose this cool star, on a new layer, draw a few stars on your
ornament. I drew some going over the edges. ** Try different
shapes and combinations** Now with your new
shape layer active, Invert Selection (shift/ctrl I). Hit your delete
button twice. Working on your new layer of stars, choose select all
(Ctrl A), and Float (ctrl F).
-
You can use shapeshifter again, my
angiesstars preset, or Blade pro on the star decorations. Apply.
Turn off your
first layer (background), and right click, merge visible.
-
Now add a topper tube on a new layer.
Move it into position using the mover tool. Add a drop shadow offsets at 1,1, opacity 70%,
Blur 3.7.
-
On your ornament layer, using the selection
tool, rectangle, select the top portion of the ornament that is peeking out
behind the topper, and hit delete.
-
Be sure to check your edges closely for
jaggies. If there are, use the retouch tool, soften with settings
below and magnify, carefully brush out the edges very slightly.
-
I used Eye Candy drop shadow and then
perspective shadow on my ornaments. Experiment with the settings to
find what pleases your eye.
-
Now you can save it as a .psp and tube it if
you'd like. Or add a hook and use it to make a card. The
possibilities are absolutely endless with KPT and ornaments!
Hope you
had fun :)
Here are some more ornaments I came up with
using shapes and KPT:
Thanks for trying out my tutorial!
